Credit Recovery
Grayson High School’s credit recovery program is used to recover a failed course and to get students back on track for graduation. If you have questions about the credit recovery options, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s counselor. All credit recovery options must be pre-approved by your student’s counselor.
GA Virtual School
What is GA Virtual School’s Credit Recovery Program?
GA Virtual School’s Credit Recovery modules are designed and approved by the Georgia Department of Education. Credit Recovery works when students utilize GA Virtual School’s customized learning tasks to make–up needed courses (pre-tests, assignments/content, post-tests, and final exam).
Eligibility
Students who previously failed a course in the 50 - 69 range in the following courses:
- Language Arts (9th grade LA, 10th grade LA, American Literature, British Literature)
- Math (Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Advanced Financial Algebra)
- Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Astronomy, Physical Science, Earth Systems, Environmental Science)
- Social Studies (World History, US History, Economics, Government, World Geography)
- Health
* Failed AP courses are not eligible for GA Virtual School’s Credit Recovery Program
Cost
Credit recovery through the GA Virtual School platform is free for the first attempt of each course.
Location
GA Virtual School’s credit recovery modules are self-paced. Students who successfully pass all post-tests will take their final exam at Grayson High School during the school day. Final exams must be taken at Grayson High School only.
NCAA
Credit Recovery courses are not NCAA eligible.
8th Period Day
What is 8th Period Day?
8th Period Day is available to all students who previously failed a course or is their first attempt taking a course. Each mini-semester a student can recover 0.5 credit within the 4-week time span of the mini-semester. Teachers utilize direct instruction for a total of 4 weeks utilizing a variety of instructional tools, including Google Classroom, where they can remediate and/or accelerate the pace of the course for individual students.
Eligibility
8th Period Day is available to ALL students who previously failed a course (failed grade 0 - 69) or attempting to accelerate their credits.
Cost
The cost is $100 per 0.5 credit.
Location
Student attendance is mandatory for 4 weeks during the fall and spring mini-semester on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:20 - 4:20 p.m. (no classes on Friday). Transportation is not provided.
